Formerly known as an Aloe, this species was revealed to be more closely related to Astroloba following phylogenetic studies of their subfamily, Asphodeloideae. To make matters more confusing, it physically resembles Haworthiopsis species more, with soft-leaved succulent rosettes lightly spotted with white dots. When in flower, the similarity fades fast and the large pinkish-orange blooms resemble those of South African Aloe much more closely.
