The pale green coloration of the stems on this species is a highlight, especially when acting as a contrasting backdrop for the highly saturated red, starfish-shaped flowers. It has a reputation for being challenging to grow, but this is largely due to its being more widely cultivated than most stapeliads, which all present similar challenges.
