commiphora-saxicola
Commiphora saxicola

Commiphora saxicola is one of a few dozen endemic species of this genus to Namibia, where it grows in a variety of ecosystems and elevations, but typically surrounded by boulders and often few other living things. This species has a resemblance to many other Namibian Commiphora, which we find have a distinct grey-ish bark that’s less prone to peeling. They often resemble the non-peeling Bursera species in South America, and similarly feature a lot of the best foliage in the genus. C. saxicola has generously sized bipinnate leaves with nice dentate margins and can typically be found growing between rocks, which the specific epithet saxicola references. From the central region of the country, plants of this species even appear as perfect natural bonsais in nature, where their engorged stems are huge compared to the thin branches which are scarce in number. These seed grown plants should make rewarding natural bonsai for the patient appreciator of chunky plants.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0912/1175/9896/files/commiphorasp_3ce22136-6b3e-4ecd-b49e-6e62968506f4.png?v=1776464352
