Named for its Northern California distribution, this species is also known from Southern Oregon, always growing in cool, perpetually wet areas. The unlikely habitat of this species is only made more unusual by the frequent presence of serpentine, California’s state rock, which is notably toxic to most plants. In cultivation, this species has a reputation for being tricky but can be rewarding to master. We find it does well in an open media of sphagnum and perlite or peat with extra perlite. These plants cannot handle temperatures above 90 degrees for very long unless the roots are kept much cooler. Our plants are from an assortment of clones produced via stolon cuttings or divisions.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Rare Plant Catalog","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":52136547975448,"sku":null,"price":85.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0912\/1175\/9896\/files\/darlingtonia.png?v=1780531966","url":"https:\/\/rareplantcatalog.com\/products\/darlingtonia-californica-large","provider":"Rare Plant Catalog","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
