droserea-schizandra
Drosera schizandra

Drosera schizandra is one of the rainforest sundews affectionately known as the "Queensland Sisters," with broad, soft green leaves that spread into a low rosette. Native to Mount Bartle Frere in northeastern Queensland, it grows on the shaded rainforest floor, a highly specialized environment that explains its somewhat unusual preferences in cultivation. While most sundews need strong light to look their best, this species thrives in conditions that would leave many of its relatives struggling. We cultivate these in closed, clear plastic boxes beneath our greenhouse benches, where they receive very little light and consistently high humidity. We've found that an open medium of live sphagnum, or long-fibered sphagnum mixed with perlite, suits it best, kept damp but never sopping wet.
