Each main spine divides at the tip into two recurved points, forming a series of miniature grappling hooks along the stems. In habitat, the sparsely branched plant can scramble to around six feet, working its way through surrounding Acacia branches. A field account from the limestone hills near Belet Uen describes it growing alongside E. inaequispina, with that species sprawling beneath the shrubs while E. glochidiata climbs into their branches. Despite its scarcity in cultivation, it is locally common in parts of its range, with populations differing in both their stem markings and the robustness of their spines. We think this is an especially nice form compared to the few other plants that exist in cultivation scattered throughout the world.
