Across the genus the blooms vary in texture, from toothy to glossy, and show ornate patterns and colors that verge on psychedelic. Even out of bloom the plants have plenty of appeal, forming pots of upright stems covered in flexible tubercles or “spikes,” which can stress into gradients of purple, red, green, blue, and everything in between.
