pseudolithos-mccoyi
Pseudolithos mccoyi

Pseudolithos mccoyi is one of the few species in this genus that’s not from Somalia, and some debate that it’s even a member of this popular stapeliad genus known for its reptilian texture and foul-smelling flowers. Together with the other thin-stemmed branching species P. dodsonianus and caput-viperae, this species is considered by some to be within the separate genus Anomalluma. From limestone outcrops in Yemen and Oman, this species only shares its habitat with dodsonianus, which it can be differentiated from by having thinner stems and a more tuberous base. Despite these countries being on the Arabian Peninsula, certain areas are only narrowly separated from Somalia by the Gulf of Aden, resulting in a lot of overlap in flora and fauna between the two regions, along with the Socotra Archipelago off the coast beyond intense and often uncrossable water. This is a mature seed-grown specimen of this slow-growing species.
