pseudolithos-miguirtinus-x-dodsonianus-clone-1
Pseudolithos miguirtinus x dodsonianus - Clone 1

These hybrids between Pseudolithos miguirtinus and dodsonianus have yielded an array of unique, slightly grotesque seedlings. The resulting offspring combine the lumpy globular silhouette of P. miguirtinus and the stacking, many-branched habit of dodsonianus. These Somalian stapeliads are strange in their own right, but these hybrids really accentuate the “science fiction experiment” qualities that make this genus so popular. While we typically avoid hybrids when propagating species that are uncommon as pure plants, it’s hard to deny there is something strangely satisfying about these deformed-looking crossbreeds. These are older specimens that we grew from seed in-house, their age apparent in the small pockmarks left behind by old flowers. The blooms are just as interesting, with an unpredictable combination of traits from both parents, but always a foul smell.
